Introduction to the Pentatonic Scale – Part II

Posted by admin as Licks, Riffs and Chords

Building off our first foray into the pentatonic scale, lets shift up and learn another shape.  This shape will connect to the first shape we learned, so all of the TOP notes of that scale will become the bottom notes of our new scale.  The root notes will remain the same – i.e. if your root before was A, your root this time will also be A, but will be found at different locations within the scale.  In other words – we’ll still be playing in the same key, so you will be able to use both our first pentatonic form, and this new form, over the same progressions.

Here is the second pentatonic form diagram:

minorpentaeform1

Here it is in TAB format:

a-minor-pentatonic-form-2-t

Now, lets practice connecting the first and second forms with this cool sequenced lick:

a-minor-pentatonic-connect

As always, practice that lick slow at a steady tempo and speed it up gradually.

Till next time!
